A Big Congratulations is going out to one of BMTA’s Top Gun Junior Referee Development member’s Bec Cooper. Bec has been selected in the Queensland Touch Football Junior Referee Development program called the Junior Elite Talent Squad (aka J.E.T.S). Bec was acknowledged for her hard work at the resent Junior State Cup in Hervey Bay.
Bec travelled to Hervey Bay with fellow TOP GUN members. All the Top Gun members represented BMTA with positive signs for our future referees. Bec was also awarded a final for her outstanding refereeing.

2013 Junior State Cup
The 2013 Junior State Cup was held on Friday 5 July, Saturday 6 July and Sunday 7 July. We saw 8 Top Gun referees attending this tournament under the watchful eye of Mack Hoverman (Top Gun Co ordinator) and coach Ken Chan. They were Bec Cooper, Sally Searle, Jai Keepa, Michael Hegarty, Farren Buckley, Braelan Renton, Nick Sheehan, Jarrod Sheehan. We had Ellie Slinger attending and helping out with the Top Guns over the weekend.
The BMTA referees were well represented when it was finals day, the State Director of referees announced the finals appointments and up grades early Sunday morning. Congratulations to our home product of the up and coming female referee Ellie Slinger for achieving her Level 3 badge.
The Bullets were firing for the Top Guns when Dave Field read out the final referees, Bec Cooper scored the Boys 10 Final, Sally Searle Boys 12 Final. Well done girls. BMTA were on a roll when we saw Rob Cooper appointed to the Boys 14 final, Ken Chan Girls 16 Final, Mack Hoverman Boys 16 Final and Liam Cooper to the Boys 18 final. What a great tournament for the BMTA referees. I’m sure the rest of the contingent from the Top Gun program have come away with experience. Congratulations to Dave Sheehan for attending his first State event.

2013 QLD State Championships
The 2013 Qld State Championships will be held on Friday 02 August to Sunday 04 August. The venue this year is at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast at Carrara. This event is an upgrade tournament for level 4. This tournament is our premier event on Queensland Touch calendar where we see the leading referees from all over the state converge for the 3 days. This is a lead up to the 2014 National Touch League.
TOURNAMENT: DATE: Friday 2nd August to Sunday 4th August 2013
TOURNAMENT: VENUE: Carrara Sports Complex, Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Carrara
NOMINATION CRITERIA: Referees nominating must hold a minimum level TFA 3 Referee badge.
NOMINATIONS: Interested referees are to nominate through their respective to Rick Borg and Regional Referee Director
REFEREE UPGRADE: The QTF State Championship is an upgrade event to TFA Level 4 Referee Badge. All nominations for upgrades must be endorsed by the respective Regional Referee Director.
REFEREE ACCEPTANCE: Referee nominations who are endorsed (Region/State) will be sent an acceptance letter with the Referee Levy due by the 26th July 2013.
2013 Junior State Champs
The 2013 Qld Junior State Championships will be held on Friday 30 August to Sunday 01 September. The tournament will be staged in Rockhampton. This event is an Level 3 upgrade. The divisions that will be competing will be boys and girls in under 12, under 14 and under 16.
We will see the following six regions attending this event:- North Queensland, Central Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City, South Queensland and South West Queensland. This event is a great stepping stone for junior referees to gain experience who are looking for a pathway into refereeing.
2013 National Youth Championships
The 2013 National Youth Championships and the Inaugural Touch Football Australia Champions League will be held on Wednesday 11 September to Sunday 15 September. The tournament will be held on the Sunshine Coast Queensland at Stocklands Park Kawana Waters.
Referees participating in the event must: be endorsed by their respective Region or State Director of Referee and Office Referees must hold a level 3, 4, 5 or 6 badge. Please note 1: nominations from level 2 referees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis; we encourage level 2 referees to seek advice from their Region or State Director of Referees before nominating .Please note as the NYC is the national event for youth referee development and the pinnacle event in the under 18 referees’ pathway, nominations from under 18 referees are encouraged.
